GMFL Year 1 Offensive End of the Year Honors

Written By: Brian Palumbo
As we rapidly approach the GMFL offseason its time to reflect upon the players who performed exceptionally well this past year. Myself, Paul and Dan voted on the awards this year. For the most part we were in agreement with the winners, but I'm sure there are a few twists in here that will start some debate. So without further ado.....

MVP
Winner - Peyton Manning - QB - IND
-Wow what a season Mr. Manning had. 60% completions, 5794 yards, 42 TDs and a 100 QB Rating. Not sure there is much more to be said here.

Runner Ups
2) Pierre Garcon - WR - IND
-The main recipient of nearly half of Manning's completions Garcon caught 151 balls for 2477 yards and 17 touchdowns.
3) Jamaal Charles - HB - KC
-Jamaal picked the wrong year to go crazy. Nonetheless he had 2231 yards from scrimmage (1692/539) and 14 combined touchdowns with only 2 fumbles.

OFFENSIVE POY
Winner - Pierre Garcon - WR - IND
-As above Pierre had an amazing year catching over 150 balls and 2400 yards.

Runners Ups
2) Peyton Manning - QB - IND
-Again see above - 5700 yards and 42 Touchdowns.
Tie 3) Drew Brees - QB - NO / Jamaal Charles - HB - KC
-Charles went for over 2200 yards from scrimmage while Brees led the NFL in QB rating with a 112.4 while throwing for 4000 yards.

OFFENSIVE ROY
Winner - Julio Jones - WR - ATL
-Julio did exactly what a top 5 pick is suppose to do. He led the Falcons in receiving with 105 catches and 1619 yards and 8 TDs.

Runners Ups
Tie 2) Mark Ingram - HB - NO / Roy Helu - HB - WAS
-Mark and Roy tied for 2nd in our voting. Mark had a great year rushing for 1282 yards and 8 touchdowns and only putting the rock on the ground twice all year. Roy had a few less yards that Mark with only 1158, but had a 4.24 average, 12 touchdowns and only fumbled 1 time on the year.

BEST QB
Winner - Peyton Manning - QB - IND
-See MVP for Manning

Runners Ups
2) Drew Brees - QB - NO
-See Offensive POY
3) Eli Manning - QB - NYG
-Despite finishing third Eli had a terrific year. He threw for 4700 yards/34 touchdowns and had a 94.6 QB rating.

BEST HB
Winner - Jamaal Charles - HB - KC
See MVP, clear winner with over 2200 yards from scrimmage.

Runners Ups
2) Chris Johnson - HB - TEN
-Chris used his blazing speed to his advantage rushing for 1713 yards and a staggering 5.40 ypc. Chris had 12 total touchdowns and 6 fumbles.
3) LeGarrette Blount - HB - DAL
-Traded before the season even began Blount showed everyone why the Cowboys valued his skills. He ran for 1700 yards at a 4.62 ypc average and 11 touchdowns.

BEST WR
Winner - Pierre Garcon - WR - IND
-Was this even in doubt, read MVP for stats.

Runners Up
2) Mario Manningham - WR - NYG
-Mario kind of came out of nowhere to lead the Giants in receiving. With Nicks and Cruz on the roster most thought Mario would play second fiddle, but he proved all wrong catching 93 balls for 1800 yards and 14 touchdowns.
3) Jacoby Jones - WR - HOU
-Much like Mario most thought Jones would play second fiddle to the much wider known Johnson, but Jones played like a number 1 catching 106 balls for 1465 yards and 14 touchdowns.

BEST TE
Winner - Dallas Clark - TE - IND
-The Colts threw a lot and Garcon could not catch everything so Clark ended up with a great year. He caught 80 passes for 1182 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Runners Up
2) Brent Celek - TE - PHI
-Its not very often that a TE leads their team in receptions and yards, but that is what Celek did. Brent caught 84 balls for 1080 yards and 5 touchdowns.
3) Antonio Gates - TE - SD
-The addition of running QB Vick didn't hurt Gates much as he still had a good year catching 47 balls for 631 yards and 8 touchdowns.

BEST OT
Winner - Joe Thomas - T - Cle
-This was among the easiest choices of all the voting. 132 pancakes and 2 sacks allowed, absolutely amazing.

Runners Up
2nd) Ryan Clady - T - DEN
-Ryan actually had a few more pancakes than Joe with 138, but he also allowed 6 sacks which caused the slip to second.
3rd) Jason peters - T - PHI
-Jason had a great year for the Eagles, unfortunately for him the two guys above him are two of the best. Jason had 106 pancakes and allowed only 3 sacks which was only good enough for 3rd in the voting.

BEST OG
Winner - Ben Grubbs - OG - BAL
-Ben had simply an amazing year blocking for Ray Rice and protecting his carousel of quarterbacks. Ben had 89 pancakes and only allowed 2 sacks.

Runners Up
2nd) Steve Hutchinson - OG - MIN
-Steve had a great year for the Vikings. He led all guards in pancakes, but unfortunately for Steve allowed a few too many sacks (7) which might have cost him first place.
3rd) Jahri Evans - OG - NO
-Jahri had a very similar year to Ben Grubbs. He had the same amount of pancakes with 89, but allowed 3 sacks. Its a rough year of voting when 1 sack knocks you down from 1st to 3rd.

BEST C
Winner - Matt Birk - C - BAL
-Another Raven winning an offensive lineman award. The Harvard grad had a great year with 76 pancakes and only 2 sacks allowed.

Runners Ups
2) Markice Pouncey - C - PIT
-Pouncey had a very good year and one that rivaled winner Matt Birk. Pouncey also allowed 2 sacks, but only had 70 pancakes.
3) Eric Winston - C - HOU
-Eric rounds out our top 3 with a solid year. Eric had 63 pancakes and 5 sacks allowed.
